Hakone … Sculpture in the Sunshine

We took the train to Gora to visit the Hakone Open Air Museum, a sculpture park with lovely grounds …

… exhibiting work by Henry Moore …

… Anthony Gormley …

… and Yayoi Kusama.

There were a couple of indoor pavilions …

… one dedicated to Picasso showing mainly ceramics and drawings …

… and Symphonic Sculpture, a spiral staircase encased in stained glass.

Here are a few pics, and spot our fascination with all things shiny …

Lunch plans fell through when one place was closed and the other had no veggie options so ended up at Lawsons where we found snacks to keep us going.  We had a quick look round Gora but plans to go walking in Sengokuhara seemed too much trouble so we got the train back.

We sat at the front, which at times becomes the back, because with an incline of 8% it also needs three switchbacks to negotiate the slope.

We turned our thoughts to dinner, and to be honest, the search for veggie or vegan choices is becoming tiring, especially as it’s as bit hit and miss, but tonight we went booked a table at Box Burger, not very Japanese you might think, but mine was made of local Soshu beef, a premium brand of Japanese Black Wagyu beef, and very delicious it was too.  Only in Japan do they give you a specially shaped piece of paper in which to hold your burger so you don’t get mucky!

A little downtime today was good as tomorrow we are heading back to Tokyo for our last few days which are bound to be hectic.
