About

Chris and I got chatting in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul in 2008 and since then have been travelling and exploring together, slowly ticking our most wished for destinations off the list. Now that work no longer takes our time, we are lucky enough to be able to take several trips each year.

I started writing travel journals in 2013 when we went on a six week trip to India in celebration of a couple of significant birthdays!  It seemed a long time to be away from family and friends and a lot to remember when we returned home so this seemed the ideal solution.

I plan our trips myself using all the resources the modern age has to offer, including very understanding and friendly staff at my local library, and we travel independently so getting tips and reviews from travellers who have visited first is so helpful and I’d like to think my journals might help a future adventurer!

Our travelling style is definitely fairly modest so we can go further, be away longer and travel more frequently. This starts by taking the best value flights, choosing public transport over a taxi and sightseeing by ourselves rather than taking a tour. We like choosing accommodation with a local flavour, rather than feeling we could be anywhere in the world and if it has a personal touch, that’s even better. As for food, we try to eat local and want to try as many of the regional specialities as possible, although as Chris is vegetarian sometimes that can be a challenge and he submits to the odd chip or pizza!

Covid changed travel completely for a while so we had a great time exploring closer to home.

Since then, Chris has recovered from a replacement knee and ankle and feels bionic, so we are back catching up for lost time!

We love hearing from anyone who has read our journals so do get in contact with any comments or queries and we’ll get back to you.
